Heard Around The Dojo EMKA Seminar in Norway
While the above picture is not about Karate-do specifically, it is breath taking and awe inspiring. One of our students,Tony Gibson, travelled to Norway for the EMKA (European Matsubayashi-Ryu Karate-Do Association) World Seminar with Soke Nagamine and took these pictures including this one of the Sognafjord, the longest fjord in Norway. They work with the United Nations World Food Program. 2008 Summer Schedule While the summer is a long way off, we would like to introduce you to the NEW summer schedule now. This new schedule will afford everyone more time off with their familes. One problem with the summer is people off on vacations at various times throughout the summer months and the resulting lower number of students in each class. We have attempted to address this situation by combining some of the classes and streamlining the schedule to Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The current schedule provides Karate, Aikido and Jodo on Saturday and the new schedule will also provide Karate, Aikido and Jodo on Saturday. The Saturday morning children's Karate class will be limited to green and up students. Many people are absent from Monday and Friday evenings so they can make the weekend longer. We eliminated the Friday evening regular classes a few years ago and now for the Summer, will move the Monday and Wednesday Aikido classes to Tuesday and Thursday. This should allow everyone good solid training in the middle of the week as well as the traditional Saturday morning. Inspiration Renseikan Dojo Shirts We are taking orders for Renseikan Dojo T-Shirts, Crew neck Sweat shirts & Hooded Sweat Shirts. They come in a variety of colours and you have your choice of which martial art is on the front of the shirt. Print and fill out the order form and bring it in to the dojo to get your order processed. It can take 10-14 days to get the shirts so don't delay, order yours today. We also have weapons, uniforms and other good ideas. Please ask for our new price list at the dojo soon. DVDs Now Available We now have available DVDs of all previous Dojo events, including your last kyu or dan test. Please order from the dojo or email the dojo. Renseikan Dojo Crests

Click on any of the upcoming events listed below to learn more: Annual Dojo Summer Holidays The dojo will be closed for the last week of July and the first week of August. The Dojo will be closed Saturday July 26th and reopen Saturday August 9th. Please have a safe and happy summer holiday. EFT Clinic Many of you have heard me talk about EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques, as a form of self help for virtually any problem you can think of. It is an easy tapping routine you learn to do on yourself which uses several key acupuncture points on the meridians. This energy healing technique was originally designed to cure people of phobias in record breaking time. Subsequently people have tried this very simple yet highly effective technique on a myriad of problems both physical and emotional. The key to getting very effective results with EFT is getting to the core issue underlying the problem. Working with someone, one-on-one or in a group, can often help you be more effective then on your own. The next EFT group workshop is on Sunday July 20th from 10am -12pm There will be a $15 fee for the session. The sessions are open to the public. Clinics will only run if sufficient numbers warrant it at that time, otherwise an alternate date will be arranged. Please check before attending. Adult Summer Party We are planning an adult summer bbq & party Saturday August 23rd. Please put this dat on your calendar and plan to attend. The event is open to all adults and their spouses/partners. More details will follow.
On Wednesday July 23rd we will be doing our "Hajime" training in the adult Aikido class. "Hajime" means to begin and we will be doing techniques rapidly on that command. It is an excellent cardio workout as well as an excellent training tool. When you must react quickly over and over to a command, you have no time to think about what you are going to do - you can only do. That is important in the martial arts. Be sure not to miss this class. After the class we will hold our Shinbokukai (Friendship event) at a local restaurant or in the dojo.
Karate Friendship Night We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and sometimes also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8:45pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month.
